Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 21, 2026
This policy covers the Moonline iPhone app, its App Clip and its widgets ("Moonline"), made by Hunter Helms ("we", "us"). It explains what information Moonline uses, where it goes, and the choices you have.
The short version
- There's no account. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your spots, reminder settings and trip log stay on your iPhone. We don't have a server that stores them.
- Sun and moon times are calculated on your phone, and alerts are scheduled on your phone.
- We use Mixpanel for anonymous usage analytics. We never send it your spot locations, spot names or coordinates.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
Information that stays on your iPhone
Moonline stores these on your device, in storage shared only by the app and its widgets:
- Spots you save: name, location, time zone, activity (fishing or hunting) and time of day
- Reminder settings and per-spot alert switches
- Trip log answers ("How did it go?")
- Display settings such as night mode
We can't see this information. Deleting Moonline deletes it. It's included in your iPhone backups the same way other app data is.
Location
Moonline asks for your location only while you're using it. It never tracks your location in the background.
- In the app, your location is used to save a spot where you're standing and to show how far away your spots are.
- In the App Clip, it's used to show the next good window where you're standing.
You can also add a spot by searching or picking it on a map, without granting location access. You can change location access any time in iPhone Settings.
Some features send a location to a service in order to work:
| Service | What's sent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Maps (MapKit) | Your search text, or a spot's coordinates | To find places you search for and look up a spot's name and time zone |
| Apple Weather (WeatherKit) | A spot's coordinates | To show temperature and pressure for that spot |
| NOAA Tides & Currents | A NOAA tide station ID, picked on your phone from a built-in station list | To show high and low tide predictions. Your coordinates aren't sent. |
Apple handles that data under the Apple Privacy Policy. NOAA is a U.S. government agency, and its privacy policy applies to its servers.
Usage analytics (Mixpanel)
To understand how Moonline is used and improve it, the app sends usage events to Mixpanel, which processes them for us. Only the main app sends analytics. The App Clip and widgets don't.
What's sent:
- A random install ID that Moonline creates the first time it opens. It isn't linked to your name, Apple Account or advertising identifier. Reinstalling the app creates a new one.
- Actions in the app, for example: onboarding steps, screens and tabs viewed, spots added, edited or deleted, alert settings changed, alerts delivered or opened, trips logged, and subscription events such as starting a trial (no payment details).
- Details about how you use Moonline: plan type (free, trial or Pro), number of spots, activity (fishing, hunting or both), whether notifications are on, and the day's rating or how many days ahead you looked.
- App and device details collected automatically by Mixpanel's SDK, such as app version, iOS version, device model, language, and first-open and session events.
- Approximate location from your IP address. Mixpanel uses the IP address of each upload to estimate a city, region and country. Mixpanel doesn't keep the IP address itself after the lookup.
What's never sent: your spots' names, coordinates or time zones, your GPS location, your name, email or contact details, or any payment information.
Analytics run for everyone who uses the app; there's no in-app setting to turn them off. Data stays tied to the random install ID. If you'd like the analytics for your install deleted, see Your choices.
Notifications
Alerts are local notifications created and scheduled on your iPhone. Moonline doesn't use a push server and doesn't collect a push token. You can turn notifications off any time in iPhone Settings or on Moonline's Alerts tab.
Purchases
Moonline Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment, and we never receive your name, payment card or billing address. The app only learns whether you have an active subscription or trial so it can unlock Pro features. Apple's handling of purchases is covered by the Apple Privacy Policy.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your information.
- We don't show ads or use advertising networks.
- We don't use the advertising identifier (IDFA) or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
- We don't share your information except with the service providers named above, or when the law requires it.
Children
Moonline isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has used Moonline and want their analytics data removed, contact us.
Retention
- On-device data stays until you delete it in the app or delete the app.
- Analytics data is kept by Mixpanel for as long as we need it to understand app usage, and is deleted on request or under Mixpanel's retention settings.
Your choices
- Location: allow, limit or turn off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Moonline.
- Notifications: turn off in Settings › Notifications › Moonline.
- On-device data: delete spots in the app, or delete the app to remove everything.
- Analytics data: email support@redmontdigital.com to ask for access to or deletion of your analytics data. The install ID isn't shown in the app, so tell us roughly when you installed Moonline and which iPhone you use, and we'll do our best to find it. Deleting and reinstalling the app starts a new install ID, which isn't linked to the old one.
Depending on where you live, you may have other rights over your personal information, such as access, correction or deletion. Contact us to use them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Moonline handles information, we'll update this page and its effective date before the change ships.
